The MSU Council of Research Deans

CORD (MSU Council of Research Deans) functions as a "think tank," providing analytical resources to the VPRGS.  It not only researches and reports on issues raised by the Vice President, but it also brings matters of interest to his/her attention.  CORD meets as needed, three-four times per month during the academic year, and less frequently during the summer.  The group elects its own chairperson, who serves as the Council's main contact.  A co-chair convenes meetings in the chairperson's absence.

CORD evolved from the MSU Science and Technology Committee, (STC.  The STC was formed by the research deans of CHM, COM, CON, and CNS to resolve common research issues, to further interdisciplinary research in health and biomedical areas, and to communicate the interests of their colleges to the office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies (VPRGS).

That original group acquired a reputation for problem solving, furthering the research agenda of the members' respective colleges, and working effectively with the VPRGS.  The membership soon grew beyond the "science" and "technology" mission when the associate deans of other colleges joined the group. In the fall of 2007, the group adopted a name that better represents its membership and mission: MSU's Council of Research Deans (CORD).
